Loads Development Engineer

LTTS US Branch
Dallas, Texas
Job Description
Job Title
Loads Development Engineer - Aircraft / eVTOL

Key Responsibilities
• Review and understand customer-provided CFD/aerodynamic data, aircraft configuration, mass properties, operating conditions, and analysis assumptions.
• Process CFD-derived aerodynamic forces, moments, coefficients, pressure distributions, or other input data required for loads development.
• Develop and maintain the aircraft loads model based on customer-provided aerodynamic and configuration inputs.
• Develop applicable flight load cases across the required aircraft operating envelope.
• Determine loads for relevant operating conditions such as:
o Maneuver conditions
o Gust conditions
o Vertical and forward flight
o Transition/conversion flight, as applicable to the eVTOL configuration
o Take-off and landing conditions
o Other customer-defined or certification-driven critical conditions
• Evaluate aerodynamic, inertial and other applicable loads and their interaction for the defined load cases.
• Generate aircraft/component forces, moments, accelerations and load distributions required for downstream structural analysis.
• Perform load-case screening and identify critical/design-driving load cases for relevant aircraft components and structural locations.
• Develop load envelopes and support identification of maximum/minimum loads.
• Perform engineering checks to ensure consistency of loads results with aircraft mass properties, aerodynamic inputs, boundary conditions and defined operating conditions.
• Support correlation, sensitivity studies and updates when revised CFD, mass properties, geometry or other customer inputs are received.
• Interface with CFD/Aerodynamics, Stress, Structures and FEM teams to ensure loads outputs are suitable for subsequent structural analysis.
• Prepare and maintain Loads Reports documenting:
o Input data and references
o Methodology
o Assumptions and limitations
o Aircraft/configuration definition
o Load-case definition
o Analysis approach
o Results and load envelopes
o Critical load cases
o Conclusions
• Address customer comments and review findings and update the Loads Report through the required review/release cycle.
• Maintain traceability between input data, load cases, analysis models, output loads and reported results.
Required Technical Skills
• Strong fundamentals in:
o Aircraft Loads and Dynamics
o Flight Mechanics
o Aerodynamics
o Aircraft Structures
o Structural Dynamics
o Maneuver and gust loads
o Load envelopes and critical-load identification
• Ability to interpret and process CFD/aerodynamic outputs for loads applications.
• Understanding of aerodynamic forces, moments, pressure distributions and aerodynamic coefficients.
• Understanding of aircraft mass, CG and inertia properties and their impact on loads.
• Knowledge of limit and ultimate loads and aircraft structural design-load principles.
• Ability to work with large load-case datasets and identify design-driving conditions.
• Good understanding of load transfer from aircraft-level aerodynamic/inertial loads to structural analysis inputs.
• Ability to independently prepare technical analysis reports with clear assumptions, methodology, results and conclusions.
Tools / Software
Experience with some of the following would be desirable:
• MSC Nastran / HyperMesh or equivalent FE tools
• CFD/aerodynamic result post-processing tools
• Excel or equivalent engineering data-processing tools
